FAQ's

  1. Can I request that my child be placed on a certain team?
Rookie and Farm:  We can handle a limited number of requests to be paired with a certain coach or another player (friend, relative). You can make such requests when you register your child - we will do our best to honor them.
Minors: We can handle a very limited number of requests if they are for carpooling purposes.
Majors: Players are drafted onto teams in the Majors division, so we cannot honor requests at this level.
  2. If I volunteer to be a coach, will my child play on my team?
    Yes!
  3. How long does the season last?
Practices start in mid-February.  Games start in mid-March and run through the end of May.
  4. What is my child's League Age?
For the 2024 Spring Season, your child's League Age is his/her age on August 31, 2024.  See the Little League Age Chart.
  5. What kind of schedule can I expect for my child's team?
We use three different locations for practice fields: Monterey Road Elementary School, San Benito Elementary School and Paloma Creek Park. The practice field that your child uses will depend on the team he or she is on.
The practice days and times are chosen by the team's coaching staff. The number of games and practices depends on the division.
    Rookie and Farm
During the pre-season (mid-February through mid-March), rookie and farm teams will have two practices per week (a weekday afternoon practice + a Saturday practice).  During the season (mid-March through late May), rookie and farm teams will have a weekday afternoon practice + a Saturday game).
    Minors and Majors
During the pre-season (mid-February through mid-March), minors and majors teams will have three practices per week (a weekday on-field practice, a batting cage session and a Saturday practice).  During the season (mid-March through late May), minors and majors teams will typically have one weekday practice, a weekday game and a weekend game (weekend games are usually played on Saturdays, but teams will occasionally have a Friday night game played under the lights).
  6. How do I sign my child up for T-Ball?
Atascadero Little League does not have a T-Ball program.  However, there IS a Spring T-Ball Season offered by the City of Atascadero.  For more information, go to Atascadero Youth Sports or call 805-470-3360.
  7. How do the Atascadero Little League Divisions work?
You might have noticed that there is overlap between some of the Division age ranges.
    Rookie: Ages 5-6
    Farm: Ages 7-8
    Minors: Ages 8-11
    Majors: Ages 10-12
As you can see, Little League does not have a strict age breakdown when it comes to the Divisions.  Instead, Atascadero Little League uses a combination of age + skill level to determine which division a child will play in.  Here's how this works.
League Age 5-6
If your player is League Age 5 or 6, he/she will be placed in the Rookie Division (the Rookie Division is the only division where placement is based entirely on age).
League Age 7
If your player is League Age 7, he/she will be placed in the Farm Division (all 7-year-olds play in the Farm Division).
League Age 8
If your player is League Age 8, he or she is eligible to play either Farm or Minors.  Most 8-year-olds will play in Farm.  However, there are some 8-year-olds who might be ready to move up to minors.  Please be aware that there are limited spots for 8-year-olds to play in minors.  If you believe your 8-year-old has the skills to “play up” in the Minors Division, there are two things you need to do: (1) register your player for minors and (2) have him/her attend the assessments on Saturday, January 27 (assessment is MANDATORY for all 8-year-olds interested in playing in minors).  Please note that registering for minors and attending assessments DOES NOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT IN MINORS.  Players in minors are drafted onto teams by the coaches — if there is room on a minors team AND your player’s assessment score warrants consideration then he/she MIGHT be drafted onto a minors team.  Otherwise, he/she will be placed on a team in the Farm Division.
League Age 9
If your player is League Age 9, he/she will be drafted onto a team in the Minors Division (all 9-year-olds play in the Minors Division).
League Age 10
If your player is League Age 10, he or she is eligible to play either Minors or Majors.  Most 10-year-olds will play in Minors.  However, there are some 10-year-olds who might be ready to move up to Majors.  Please be aware that there are limited spots for 10-year-olds to play in Majors.  If you believe your 10-year-old has the skills to “play up” in the Majors Division, there are two things you need to do: (1) register your player for Majors and (2) have him/her attend Assessments on Saturday, January 27 (assessment is MANDATORY for all players 9-12).  Please note that registering for Majors and attending assessments DOES NOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT IN MAJORS.  Players in Majors are drafted onto teams by the coaches — if there is room on a Majors team AND your player’s assessment score warrants consideration then he/she MIGHT be drafted onto a Majors team.  Otherwise, he/she will be drafted onto a team in the Minors Division.
League Age 11
If your player is League Age 11, he or she is eligible to play in either Minors or Majors.  Most 11-year-olds will play in Majors.  However there are some 11-year-olds who might need more time to develop.  If you would like your 11-year-old to play in Minors, then simply register him/her for Minors.  He/she will then be drafted onto a minors team.  (Note that attending assessments is still MANDATORY).
League Age 12
If your player is League Age 12, he or she will be drafted onto a Majors team (all 12-year-olds are required to play in the Majors Division).  Assessments are MANDATORY for 12-year-olds.
